Embracing Adventure in your Homeschool Journey

Updated: Mar 30

We love taking our learning adventure outside of our home! We've dubbed it "Family Field Trip Friday." I'd love to support you in your homeschooling process and I'm happy to share a few of the experiences that we enjoy as a family. I'll also be sharing how I record homeschool hours in the process.

Kansas City families - Check out a few ways you can add some adventure to your schedule and help your children become lifelong learners.

**In an effort to be transparent, I may earn a small commission if you purchase tickets or passes through my shared links. My family and I appreciate your support!

POGO Pass

Kansas City families - you're missing out if you don't have this awesome pass! Purchase one POGO Pass per person and take advantage of 25 different venues like Science City, Kansas City Zoo, or Wonderscope. We had our first POGO Pass in 2024 and everyone voted unanimously to buy one again in 2025. Use my referral link to get 50% off per person.

The educational opportunities are endless with the POGO Pass.

Here are a few examples at the Kansas City Zoo that are great for elementary students:

  • Science - Learn about different animals and then go watch them in action at the zoo. Bring along a notebook and pencil to make observations about the food they eat, the way they move, and observe their behavior.

  • Math and/or Geography - give the map to your junior topographer and let them be your guide for the day. Ask them questions about the scale or spatial distribution on the map.

  • Physical Education - if you're just visiting for the fun of it, bring those step counters and see who can move the most during your visit (Hint: WALK to Africa and complete the full loop!)

  • Check out their website for more Homeschool fun like Homeschool days and semester classes.

Kansas City SEA LIFE Aquarium

SEA LIFE Kansas City is a great way to see a bit of ocean life while staying in the heart of the US. Inspire a love for learning and check out more than 250 species.

The educational opportunities at SEA LIFE Kansas City include:

  • Science - Animal Talks & Feedings (do your research before you go & help your kids prep questions to ask)

  • Math - Bring a small tape measure and use it to measure the tanks. Based on your measurements, estimate the volume and convert it to gallons.

  • Art - Spend time at Doodle Reef where you will create your own creature and watch it come to life in the digital aquarium in front of you. Draw animals as they look in the wild or have fun and create your own!

Kauffman Stadium Tour & Baseball Game

Touring a baseball stadium is a great way to get behind the scenes information and views. Check out this view we got from the Press Box at Kauffman Stadium!

Schedule your tour (click here) to view spaces not normally open to the public including the dugout, interview room, & more!

Want to catch a game instead? Click here to purchase tickets and watch the Boys in Blue get a W!

Educational opportunities at Kauffman Stadium:

  • Career Education -Take your middle or high schoolers for a tour and talk about different job opportunities at the K. There are hundreds of people who make each game day a success! Talk about the qualifications needed in each position and what steps they can be taking now to achieve those goals.

  • Math - Purchase an official score card or print your own before you go and practice keeping stats. Make observations about the game, record them, then calculate batting averages, on base percentage, earned run average, etc. when you get home. Use that data to project the year and compare the success of the team to other teams in the league.

Save this post for the next time you need some homeschool field trip inspiration and join our email list for future opportunities.

Find Purpose in the Journey by embracing adventure and creating memories while learning together.
